Only 2 packs of expired noodles mistakenly sent to Seniang survivors-DSWD

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday admitted that it had distributed expired noodles to survivors of typhoon (now tropical depression) Seniang.

However, it said only two food packs distributed in Silay City, Negros Occidental contained expired noodles.

In a statement, DSWD explained that the local field office used the last batch of food packs meant for super typhoon Yolanda survivors. The agency said they specifically instructed the City Social Welfare and Development Officer (CSWDO) to immediately distribute it to the Yolanda survivors.

“The CSWDO explained that she had two extra packs from the last tranche of goods for the ‘Yolanda’ victims and, admittedly, without checking the condition of their contents, she just gave those out,” the statement said.

DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman reminded the local government units to immediately distribute the relief goods to residents affected by calamities.
