‘Seniang’ maintains strength; Signal No. 2 up in 11 areas

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical Storm “Seniang” (international name: Jangmi) has maintained its strength as it traverses the Bohol sea, packing maximum sustained winds clocked at 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 80 kph, according to the latest weather bulletin issued at 5 p.m. Monday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Seniang is still moving in a west northwest direction at 11 kph.

Public storm signal number 2 was raised over Bohol, Siquijor, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern part of Negros Occidental, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, and Dinagat Province.

SENIANG_SIGNALS_12292014_5pmMeanwhile, public storm signal number 1 was hoisted over Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camotes Island, Rest of Cebu, Rest of Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Southern part of Iloilo, southern part of Antique, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Agusan del Sur.

Pagasa warned residents living in low-lying areas placed under storm signals of possible flashfloods and landslides.

Due to moderate to heavy rains being dumped by Seniang within its 300 kilometer diameter, Pagasa has issued red rainfall alert in the provinces of Southern Leyte, Leyte and Bohol. The said rainfall alert spells serious flooding in low-lying areas and landslide in mountainous areas in these areas.

According to authorities, two persons have been killed due to the onslaught of Seniang in the Visayas and Mindanao.
