MANILA, Philippines –The sitation in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) has “stabilized” a day after passengers expressed disgust over delayed flights, according to Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya.
In an interview over DZMM, Abaya said he has not received any complaints from passengers on Saturday.
“So far, I did not monitor any complaint or text. There’s a major development. It looks like it has stabilized now,” Abaya said in a mixture of English and Filipino.
He said the chaos on Friday was due to the influx of passengers who had missed their flights as well as the rainy weather.
Chaos marred Naia on Friday due to long lines of passengers and delayed and canceled flights, with people sitting on stools and on the floor, and an Israeli man yelling at airport personnel demanding they pay him back for their incompetence, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Most of the complaints were from passengers of Cebu Pacific Air who were not able to board their flights owing to the long queues at the airline’s check-in counters.
In a statement, Cebu Pacific said: “The situation came about due to insufficient manpower at the airport earlier today.”
“We apologize for this inconvenience. We know the importance of the season to our passengers and wish them the best during the rest of the holidays,” Cebu Pacific said.
