Today, Dec. 23, is the 119th birth anniversary of National Artist in Painting Victorio Edades. Born in 1895, he is considered the Father of Modern Philippine Painting. Among his notable works are “The Artist and the Model,” “Portrait of the Professor,” and “The Wrestlers.” He was conferred the title of National Artist in 1976. Edades died on March 7, 1985.
