SC suspends work in courts nationwide until January 4

The Judiciary is taking a nearly two-week break starting at noon today (Tuesday).

The Supreme Court has announced in an advisory that work in all courts nationwide would be suspended starting at noon on Dec. 23, ahead of the official start of the Christmas break tomorrow (Wednesday).

The high tribunal has also declared Dec. 29 and Jan. 2 nonworking holidays for court personnel, including those working at the Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals.

Work for all judiciary personnel will resume on Jan. 5.

While justices and their staff are expected to still report to work this morning, the high tribunal has been on official recess since its last en banc session on Dec. 10.

Among the cases it left pending were the government’s appeal of its July 1 ruling that declared the Disbursement Acceleration Program unconstitutional and the disqualification petition filed against Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.

Earlier, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also announced the lifting of the number coding scheme from Dec. 23 to Jan. 4.
