Seminarian-turned-teacher nabbed for raping Grade 6 pupil

MANILA, Philippines–A former seminarian-turned-school teacher has been arrested by the police in his house in Imus, Cavite City for allegedly raping and eventually impregnating a Grade 6 pupil.

After more than a year in hiding, Ronadel Bedia was nabbed by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group ‎personnel last Tuesday in his home on Lime Street in ACM Homes, Alapan 1A.

In March last year, Police Director Benjamin Magalong, Philippine National Police CIDG chief, said Bedia threatened to kill the victim if she refused to give in to his sexual advances.

After a month, the victim, whose name was withheld, flew to US with her family–unaware that she was pregnant.

Magalong said the Grade 6 pupil then gave birth to a baby girl.

In a report to Magalong, Senior Superintendent Felipe Natividad, of CIDG Calabarzon region, said the arrest warrant was issued by Judge Francisco Dizon Pano of Trece Martirez regional trial court.

Bedia is facing a charge for rape under Republic Act 8353 in relation to RA 7610 or the Child Abuse Law.
