MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is “on alert” for possible power interruptions in Metro Manila, which is expected to be hit by Typhoon ‘’Ruby’’ Monday night, its spokesman said.

“Sa ngayon medyo maganda pa yung situation natin insofar as the power situation is concerned. Wala naman tayong major outages but again tulad nang binabanggit natin, we’re on alert (At this time, the power situation is still normal. But we remain on alert),’’ Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said in a television interview Monday morning.

“Ang binabantayan natin yung ulan in terms of severe flooding. Pag ang ulan ay bumuhos na I think starting later this afternoon to tonight, pag ganyan ang sitwasyon kami palagi naming sinasabi paghandaan na natin yun sakali mang dumating na ang tubig-baha, i-switch off na natin yung circuit breaker, huwag na nating hintayin yung tubig baha in case of flooding (We’re keenly watching possible flooding when the rains come. And we’ve been telling the public that we should be prepared for such a situation by switching off our circuit breaker even before the flooding happens),” Zaldarriaga said.

He also called on everyone to immediately report to Meralco when they see leaning electricity posts or damaged lines.
