MANILA, Philippines – Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II said Typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit) will make its first landfall in Eastern Samar on Saturday evening.

Citing the state weather bureau during a briefing in Borongan, Roxas said the typhoon will hit Dolores town, also in Eastern Samar, at 8 p.m. Saturday.

“Update: #RubyPH landfall expected 8pm in Dolores, E. Samar. Still a very strong storm,” the Secretary said over Twitter.

The coastal town of Dolores is a third class municipality in the northern part of Eastern Samar.

The 11 a.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration showed that the typhoon was moving towards the West at a faster pace of 13 kilometers per hour (from only 10 kph earlier in the day).
