DOST: Typhoon Ruby to hit 5 landfall areas on Sunday, Monday

MANILA, Philippines – Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo said that typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit) is expected to hit land five times on Sunday and Monday.

In an interview with dzMM, Montejo said Ruby is supposed to make its first landfall in Borongan, Eastern Samar on Sunday morning.

Below is the list of areas where the typhoon will make its landfall:

Sunday (Dec. 7)

2 a.m. to 4 a.m. – Borongan, Eastern Samar

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Masbate

8 p.m. to 10 p.m. – Sibuyan Island (Romblon)

Monday (Dec. 8)

2 a.m. to 4 a.m. – Romblon

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Mindoro

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday morning said Ruby has slightly weakened, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

The typhoon’s eye was located 230 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar as of 1 p.m. Saturday.

Moving Westward at 13 kph, it is expected to reach 50 kilometers west of Catarman, Northern Samar on Sunday morning, 40 km north of Romblon on Monday morning, and 115 km west of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday morning.

It is supposed to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday.
