MANILA, Philippines—Aiming for zero casualty, the Pasay City government on Friday started taking precautionary measures in preparation for the passage Typhoon “Ruby” over the weekend especially in flood-prone areas in the city.
Dennis Acorda, the city administrator and coordinator of the local government’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said they have readied monitoring teams from Pasay Rescue in four flood-critical areas—Maricaban, Malibay, Kalayaan and Villamor/Pildera.
“These teams will be activated once the city has been placed on orange alert (intense rain needing possible evacuation),” Acorda said, noting that the local government was now on “high monitoring mode alert” for the approaching typhoon.
“We will automatically be on yellow alert (heavy rain for monitoring) once it hits land in Eastern Samar on Saturday,” he added.
The city, according to Acorda, was aiming for zero casualty and will continue taking the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its residents.
Stocks of relief goods and medicines have also been readied by the city’s social work department for distribution in case of evacuation.
The city showed its preparedness for disaster when it set up the “Tent City” at the Villamor Airbase last year to serve as a temporary shelter for Supertyphoon “Yolanda” survivors who were flown from Tacloban to Manila.
