‘Ruby’ to bring rains in Metro Manila

TYPHOONPROFILE-Dec5-2014MANILA, Philippines–Typhoon “Ruby” (international name Hagupit) is expected to hit Central Philippines over the weekend but even Metro Manila would feel its effects.

“The outer bands of Ruby will bring rains in Metro Manila starting Sunday morning onwards,” Chris Perez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said midday Friday in a press briefing.

Metro Manila will experience rains despite not being in Ruby’s direct path because the typhoon has a 700 kilometer diameter expanse. Heavy to intense rains are expected in areas within the path of Ruby in the Visayas.

Perez said that those areas without storm signals should also monitor Pagasa’s rainfall advisory in order to prepare.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Eastern Samar on Saturday evening.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista said they were studying whether classes would be suspended on Monday.

They are also checking flood-prone areas, especially those near rivers.
