Police told to prepare for Typhoon ‘Hagupit’
MANILA, Philippines–Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima has ordered regional directors of areas where Typhoon “Hagupit” is expected to make landfall to prepare for the “Yolanda-like” weather disturbance.
Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesperson, said Purisima, who is in the Middle East for a conference, has already directed regional directors to make necessary preparations for the typhoon.
The incoming typhoon is expected to make landfall in Eastern Visayas on Saturday. Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Hagupit” may also bring storm surges in the affected areas.
In November 2013, supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) pummeled Eastern Visayas, shutting down cities in some provinces and killing more than 6,000 individuals.
Mayor said regional directors were also told to coordinate with local government units in their areas.
The state weather bureau said “Hagupit” will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday. It will be locally named “Ruby” once it enters PAR.
