MANILA, Philippines—A lawmaker called for a lifetime driving ban for Joseph Russel Ingco, the driver of the Maserati Ghibli who allegedly assaulted a traffic enforcer in a road rage incident in Quezon City.

In a statement on Monday, Quezon City Representative Winston Castelo urged Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino to impose the maximum penalty on Ingco to serve as a lesson for hot-tempered motorists.

“We have to teach a lesson on those irrational people on wheels. We have to keep our streets safe from these people,” said Castelo, who chairs the House Metro Manila development committee.

“We have to keep that vigilant campaign against the people, who make the streets of Metro Manila dangerous for all people … The rule of law should be given primacy in our treatment of these people,” Castelo added.

Last Thursday, Ingco allegedly beat up MMDA traffic enforcer Jorbe Adriatico who caught him making an illegal left turn along Quezon Avenue.

When he saw the enforcer taking a cell phone video, Ingco allegedly broke Adriatico’s nose and dragged him as he drove the car.

In television interviews, Ingco denied assaulting Adriatico and turned the tables on the enforcer, saying it was Adriatico who attacked him and even threatened to kill him.
