A Pasay City policeman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen just about 50 meters away from his station Friday night.
SPO3 Delfin Macario was walking toward his vehicle parked near the corner of FB Harrison and Valhalla Streets when he was shot in the head and back around 9 p.m. Fellow officers brought Macario to San Juan de Dios Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Investigators have ruled out robbery as the motive of the attack since apparently no item was taken from the slain Macario, who was shot several times from behind with a pistol.
A security camera in the area captured the assailants’ escape toward Manila but the image was not clear enough to be of help in establishing their identities, said Chief Insp. Lerpon Platon, head of the Special Operations Unit.
According to Platon, Macario was on his second stint with the antinarcotics unit since November last year, after he served under the intelligence unit.
Records further showed that Macario was one of the eight officers ordered relieved of their posts by the Southern Police District command in 2006, after they were accused of extorting P3 million from Masajuki Suzuki, a Japanese businessman they arrested allegedly for possession of illegal drugs.
It was not immediately clear what became of the complaints against the relieved group, who were then led by Chief Insp. Vicente Raquion. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
