MANILA, Philippines—Fire gutted two houses in a shanty community in Novaliches, Quezon City, Friday afternoon, leaving at least 12 families homeless.
Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City Fire Marshall, said the fire hit two units of a seven-door apartment in Medalla Compound along Sarmiento Street, Barangay (village) Gulod at 2:20 pm.
A lighted candle left inside the house may have caused the fire, Fernandez said in a phone interview with Inquirer.net. The house is owned by Ike Medalla and rented by Junior Cerilo.
No one was reported hurt.
The fire official said the fire reached third alarm at 2:43 p.m. It was put out at 3:12 p.m.
Damage to property was placed at P200,000.
