CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga—-At least 12 Victory Liner buses were burned by suspected communist rebels in the firm’s motorpool in Capas, Tarlac, on Sunday night, reports from the police and town officials on Monday said.
Senior Police Officer 1 Rodrigo Salazar, chief investigator of the Capas police, said at least seven armed men wearing camouflage military uniforms broke into the bus firm’s compound in Barangay Estrada at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Salazar said the armed men disarmed the security guards and burned the buses.
Capas Mayor Antonio Rodriguez Jr. said initial information reaching him showed that the New People’s Army (NPA) was responsible for the arson.
Rodriguez said said the burning was reported to the police an hour after the attack.
He said he did not know why the rebels burned the buses. As of Monday, police have not established the motive behind the attack.
The company, reports said, has been maintaining the facility for six years now. The NPA has not owned up the attack, as of Monday morning.
