MANILA, Philippines—Tropical Depression Queenie is expected to continue to batter the Visayas and Mindanao with heavy rain as it crosses Northern Mindanao and the Visayas Wednesday night and Thursday, the state weather bureau said.
Moving westward at 24 kilometers per hour with center winds of 55 kph, Queenie was expected to traverse Central and Western Visayas on Thursday morning, with its eye forecast to be at sea between Negros Occidental and Palawan by noon.
It is expected to be over the West Phlippine Sea by Friday afternoon, when the cyclone’s center is forecast to be 330 kilometers west northwest of Puerto Princesa City.
The country’s 20th tropical cyclone this year will exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday night, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
In its latest bulletin, Pagasa warned of rains with gusty winds on Thursday over the regions of Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao and Central Visayas as well as the provinces of Southern Leyte, Zamboanga Del Norte, Negros Occidental and Palawan.
The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao and the Bicol region, as well as the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon will experience light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, the weather bureau said.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it said.
On Wednesday night, Pagasa raised warning Public Storm Signal No. 1 over 20 provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao and one province in Luzon.
These are Southern Leyte, Bohol, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern Negros Occidental and Siquijor in the Visayas; Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostella Valley, Dinagat Province, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon and Zamboanga del Norte in Mindanao; and Palawan (including the Calamian group of islands).
