Fire hits informal settler community in Batasan Hills, QC

MANILA, Philippines—Fire hit a community of informal settlers in Batasan Hills, Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon, displacing at least 11 families.

No one was reported injured so far.

Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City Fire Marshall, said in phone interview that the fire razed five houses on IBP Road. Damage to property was placed at P250,000.

Fernandez said the fire originated from the house of 52-year-old Rogelio Aquino, whose children were reportedly playing with matches inside their bedroom on the second floor.

The fire reached second alarm, and was put out around 4:50 p.m.
