MANILA, Philippines—A 19-year-old saleslady was held hostage by a screwdriver-wielding man near a bus terminal in Caloocan City Wednesday morning.
In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990 AM, Chief Inspector Reynaldo Medina, Caloocan Police Substation 1 commander, identified the hostage-taker as Joshua Ramirez, 32, of Raxabago, Gagalangin, in Tondo, Manila.
Ramirez suddenly attacked Danica Dacer while she was walking in front of the RJ Express Terminal in Barangay (village) Grace Park on her way to work to a nearby mall.
Medina said the suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, asked the negotiators to bring his relatives to the area.
Police rescued Dacer in less than 20 minutes after they assured Ramirez that his family members were on their way.
The police official said the victim sustained cuts to the neck. Ramirez brandished a screwdriver about three-inches long.
Dacer was brought to a nearby hospital while Ramirez was put under police custody.
