MANILA, Philippines – A10-day sportsfest kicked off Tuesday on Caballo Island to help the 133 peacekeepers from Liberia kill boredom while completing their 21-day quarantine period.
Lieutenant Colonel Marlowe Patria, Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office Deputy Chief, said the peacekeepers are divided in two teams that would compete in indoor and outdoor events.
“The sports activities are aimed to keep them occupied, maintain physical and mental fitness and enhance camaraderie among themselves,” Patria said.
Indoor activities like darts, scrabble and chess kicked off the sportsfest while outdoor sports – basketball, volleyball and fishing – would begin on Wednesday.
For fishing, Patria said that the teams are given an hour to catch the biggest and heaviest fish.
