Caritas Manila, the social services and development agency of the Archdiocese of Manila is moving on to its Damayan Sa Haiyan rehabilitation phase drive focused on education, livelihood and reconstruction for victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda.” About P60 million has been allocated for its third round of projects from September until May 2015 for Leyte, Samar, Cebu and Palawan. The agency has received and distributed donations worth P268.3 million in cash and kind a year after Yolanda devastated parts of the country.

To support Caritas Manila’s projects, visit www.caritasmanila.org.ph or call its DonorCare Lines at 563-9311, 564-0205, 0999-7943455, 0905-4285001 or 0929-8343857.

An initial P140 million in cash and in-kind donations were given to those severely affected in Leyte, Samar, Naval, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Capiz, Cebu, Masbate and Palawan. As an immediate response, 132,837 families were given emergency relief bags with food and non-food items, as well as P6.8 million for sick and disabled victims. A total of P18 million for livelihood projects, shelter assistance, chapel and convent reconstruction were distributed initially apart from aid to 2,000 farmers who received farm tools; P32.212 million was set aside for vocational/college scholarships.

More people are joining Caritas Manila in its recovery and rehabilitation programs, like a benefit concert which generated P23 million to help Caritas Manila’s continuing reconstruction efforts. Together with the PLDT-Smart Foundation and One Meralco Foundation, over 20 companies and families responded to the call of rebuilding chapels that double as community multi-purpose and evacuation centers. All 23 chapels in Leyte and Eastern Samar will be turned over before Christmas.
