Boy who killed 68-year-old woman faces murder rap

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is set to file on Tuesday a murder charge against the 17-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed to death a 68-year-old woman after he mistook her for a thief in Quezon City.

Senior Inspector Maricar Taqueban, QCPD spokesperson, said in a text message that the police will file the complaint within the day against the teenager.

On Monday, the body of Violeta Ga‎rcia who was stabbed several times was found by authorities on Lira Street in Barangay (village) North Fairview.

Later in the day, the boy admitted to the police that he killed Garcia. Before the incident, police said the suspect had gone from a drinking spree.

A QCPD Homicide Section report said the suspect punched and repeatedly stabbed Garcia thinking she was the person who tried to break into their house.

Garcia and the suspect’s houses are on the same stree‎t along Rupee Street in North Fairview.

He then dragged the old woman’s body to the other street and left it there. ‎Garcia’s body was discovered by residents and village authorities around 3 a.m. Monday.

The killer, whose name was withheld as he is a minor, is currently under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
