MANILA, Philippines–Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was no longer surprised by Vice President Jejomar Binay’s decision to withdraw from their debate saying the latter’s decision should “destroy whatever credibility was left of him.”

“In a way it is expected…” Trillanes said in a radio interview on Tuesday, saying that from the very start Binay and his word should not be trusted.

“This one should destroy whatever credibility was left of him,” the senator added.

Trillanes said the debate scheduled for November 27 should have been a good opportunity for the Vice President, who has been accused of amassing unexplained wealth, to explain his side.

Asked if he would be willing to accept the debate should the vice president change his mind, Trillanes said, “Call pa rin ako (I am still up for it)…“
