MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) has given more than P26 million in financial aid to around 10,000 policemen who were also victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) in November last year.
The PNP gave P26,934,170.24 to the 10,132 policemen whose lives were disrupted by the devastation caused by the storm.
Donations
Director Jaime Morente, PNP director for personnel and records management (DPRM), said the aid came from donations from the Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loan Association Inc. (AFPSLAI), Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI), Public Safety Savings and Loan Association Inc. (PSSLAI) and the PNP Provident Fund (PNPPF).
Around 5,521 policemen received P21,056,000 in donations from the PSMBFI, while 4,376 policemen each received P1,120.24 from a P4.9-million grant from the PSSLAI.
Morente said 235 policemen received P976,000 in assistance from the PNPPF and AFPSLAI.
Earlier, the PNP through the DPRM’s morale and welfare division, issued guidelines for policemen affected by the typhoon who wish to avail themselves of the financial aid.
Death assistance
Relatives of policemen who died in the storm will receive P10,000 financial assistance aside from the regular death benefits, Morente said.
Policemen whose houses suffered total or heavy damage are entitled to P5,000, while those whose houses were partially damaged are entitled to P3,000.
Morente noted that police regional offices in the Bicol, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions reported damage to police infrastructure and homes of many policemen.
