MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday expressed condolences for the family of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the death of her one-year-old grandson.
While the Sandiganbayan first division denied Arroyo’s request for a house arrest to grieve for her family’s loss, it allowed the Pampanga lawmaker, who is facing plunder charges, to attend her grandson’s wake from November 4 to 9.
“We respect the decision of the Sandiganbayan and we condole with her and Luli for the death of their grandson and child,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said.
Jorge Alonzo “Jugo” Arroyo Bernas is the son of the former president’s daughter, Luli Arroyo-Bernas. The baby died on Sunday morning at the Philippine Heart Center because of a congenital heart disease.
