QC fire leaves 100 families homeless

/ 04:34 AM November 04, 2014

MANILA, Philippines–A burning candle left unattended during a brownout is believed to have caused the fire that left about 100 families homeless Monday morning in Barangay (village) Doña Imelda, Quezon City.

The fire, which started around 7 a.m., spread across a neighborhood of informal settlers in Area 3 and was declared out an hour and a half later after engulfing at least 60 houses.

City fire marshal Supt. Jesus Fernandez said an initial investigation showed that it started at the house of Mildred Sanchez, 60, on Kapiligan Street, one of the homes without electricity at the time.–Jaymee Gamil
