Heavy traffic on roads to Metro Manila as ‘Undas’ weekend ends

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy traffic hit roads leading to Metro Manila Sunday as residents return after spending the weekend in the provinces in observance of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

In a tweet from the official Twitter account of the Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc., the operator of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), moderate traffic flow was seen leading to Ayala toll plaza as of 6:00 p.m.

“As of 6:00 p.m, motorists coming from provinces in South Luzon to Manila will experience light to moderate traffic as they approach Calamba toll plaza and will be stuck in heavy traffic as they approach the Alabang viaduct,” it said.

Meanwhile, according to the official Twitter account of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), heavy traffic was noted in the southbound direction leading to Bocaue Barrier as of 6:10 p.m. NLEx advised motorists to take Bocaue exit and re-enter the Bocaue toll plaza.

Likewise, moderate to heavy traffic flow was seen as motorists near the Sto. Tomas toll plaza at the Star expressway as of 6:10 p.m, according to the official Toll Regulatory Board Twitter account. A 300-meter queue leading to the Sto. Tomas toll plaza was also noted.

The exodus to the provinces began Friday night on October 31.
