SPD man tagged in rape must face NBI Monday
MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) expects to see on Monday the ranking Southern Police District (SPD) official being accused of raping a nightclub model in his own office, even as it began taking statements from several witnesses.
Supervising agent Alan Tubi, the NBI officer on the case, said Supt. Erwin Emelo had been issued a subpoena to appear on Monday concerning the rape and human trafficking charges he is facing.
“Emelo had received his subpoena at the custodial office of the SPD headquarters,” Tubi told the Inquirer on Saturday.
The alleged victim “Leila” filed a rape complaint on Monday in the NBI against Emelo, saying he sexually assaulted her inside his sleeping quarters hours after Emelo and his men raided her Pasay City nightclub in the early morning of Oct. 23.
The 29-year-old woman, an unwed mother of five, was one of the 62 employees arrested and brought to the SPD headquarters in Fort Bonifacio for supposed lack of working permits.
