12 people murdered every day in Honduras – study

Honduras mapTEGUCIGALPA – At least 12 people are murdered every day in Honduras, figures showed Sunday, reinforcing the Central American country’s grisly reputation as the most violent nation in the world.

More than 60,000 people died of homicide between 2000 and 2013 in Honduras, the national commission of human rights CONADEH said, the victims of attacks involving firearms, knives or blunt weapons.

The figures are about 10 times higher than the global average in terms of homicides per capita, CONADEH said, although the explosion in violence has slowed in recent years.

Honduras has a population of eight million people.
