Alleged Binay ‘dummy’ Antonio Tiu faces Senate panel
MANILA, Philippines – Chinese-Filipino businessman Antonio Tiu faced the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee on Wednesday to answer allegations that he was the dummy of Vice President Jejomar Binay for a 350-hectare property in Batangas province.
Tiu and Binay repeatedly denied the allegation in various media interviews.
Binay was also invited for the second time to attend the hearing of the subcommittee but repeatedly said that he would not accept the invitation.
The subcommittee headed by Senator Aqulino “Koko” Pimentel III is investigating Binay over the allegedly anomalous construction of the Makati City Hall 2 parking building which started when he was still the mayor.
But the investigation has extended to other issues, including allegations that the then city mayor had received kickbacks from every project in the city and that he had also allegedly used dummies to hide his unexplained wealth.
