MANILA, Philippines – A faint crater glow was observed Sunday night as Mayon Volcano continues its unrest, the volcanology institute said Monday morning.
In its Mayon bulletin issued at 8 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the faint crater glow indicates that the volcano is under the state of unrest due to the movement of “potentially eruptible magma.”
Mayon also recorded two volcanic quakes in a 24-hour span from Sunday 8 a.m. to Monday 8 .am.
Phivolcs added that moderate emission of white steam plumes drifting northwest and southwest was observed with a sulfur dioxide flux of 272 tons per day on Sunday.
Mayon remained at alert level 3 wherein a hazardous eruption could occur within weeks.
