No crater glow monitored as Mayon records minimal activity

MANILA, Philippines — After its crater shone bright on the dawn of Wednesday, Mayon Volcano looked dull from Wednesday evening to Thursday dawn as no crater glow was observed in that period.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that no crater glow was observed as rain clouds covered the apex of the volcano.

Mayon had a single volcanic quake from Wednesday 8 a.m. to Thursday 8 a.m., said Phivolcs.

Phivolcs added that Mayon had moderate emission of white steam plumes drifting west southwest and had a sulfur dioxide flux of 92 tons per day on Wednesday.

Despite the minimal activity, Mayon remains at alert level 3 and could have a hazardous eruption within weeks.
