MANILA, Philippines—Five men were arrested and P1.3 million in alleged drug money was recovered in a police raid early Wednesday in a Caloocan City slum area. Armed with search and arrest warrants, a composite team led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group conducted the 5 a.m. operation in Barangay 188 in the Tala area.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said three of the five arrested men were suspected hired killers also involved in car theft, robbery, kidnapping and drug dealing. They were identified as Kharil Angri, Ernesto Glema and Leonardo de la Torre, who yielded an M16 rifle, two .45-caliber pistols, and several sachets of “shabu” when arrested, Magalong said. The two other arrested suspects are minors. Jaymee T. Gamil
