Pulse Asia: Only 3 in 10 Filipinos believe Aquino fulfilled ‘tuwid na daan’ promise

MANILA, Philippines—Only three in 10 Filipinos believe that President Benigno Aquino III has delivered on his promise of “tuwid na daan” (straight path) brand of governance, according to a survey released Monday by pollster Pulse Asia.
In a nationwide survey conducted from September 8-15, it was revealed that 29 percent of the 1,200 adult respondents believe that Aquino was able to fulfill his promise.
Meanwhile, four in 10 Filipinos or 36 percent of respondents said that he has failed to carry out “tuwid na daan.”
The survey also revealed that three out of 10 Filipinos or 34 percent of survey participants are ambivalent on the matter.
Three-way split of public opinion
The survey showed that pluralities in Metro Manila (36 percent) and Luzon (45 percent) think that Aquino was unable to execute his “tuwid na daan” policy.
Meanwhile, a big plurality of Visayans (43 percent) are ambivalent on the issue while 43 percent of Mindanao residents believe that the “tuwid na daan” promise was fulfilled by Aquino.
Pulse Asia said that the duration of the survey coincided with reports of the request of Aquino for emergency powers to address the impending power shortage in 2015, Aquino’s expression of trust to embattled PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima amid calls demanding his resignation, and the transmittal of the draft Bangsamoro Law to Congress.
The survey has a ± 3% error margin and pegged at 95% confidence level.
