1 dead, 4 missing due to heavy rains in Visayas, Mindanao—NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines—A 10-year old boy died of electrocution and four persons remain missing in the wake of heavy rains spawned by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in several provinces of Visayas and Mindanao last week.

According to a report released by the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) Sunday, the casualty was identified as Angelo Clavines from Barangay (village) West Habog-habog, Molo, Iloilo City province.

John Paul Obaridas, 15 and Anthony Jardaleza, 16 are still missing and were last seen at Calajunan Creek in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, two persons are reported missing after they were washed away due to floods: Eser Oro of Barangay Cambagahan, Bais City, Negros Oriental was washed away in the Niludhan river and Maungko Mastura drowned in the Lumabka river, Barangay Nuyo, Maguindanao.

The NDRMMC noted that 15, 289 families in regions VI, IX, and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have been affected by the heavy rains.

Damage to agriculture was pegged at P22,000. Also, 38 houses were totally-damaged while 100 houses were partially damaged due to the ITCZ-induced rains in regions VI and XI.
