MANILA, Philippines—A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Southern Mindanao at 8:58 p.m. Friday.
The undersea quake centered 143 kilometers southeast of Sarangani province at a depth of 61.6 kilometers.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide frequently causing seismic and volcanic activity.
