MANILA, Philippines — Classes and work at Miriam College in Katipunan, Quezon City were disrupted Thursday afternoon after one of its students got an anonymous text message threatening to bomb the school.
Personnel and experts from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) explosives and ordinance division arrived at the school premises at around 2:30 p.m. to search the school premises.
But Inspector Noel Sublay, QCPD EOD chief, said in a phone interview that no explosives were found after a two-hour search.
Around 12:08 p.m, the president of the Miriam College student council received a text message, saying “a group” has prepared a “surprise” for the school.
The text message came from mobile number +63959-385-6409.
(Good morning Miriam College. Our group has a surprise for you, faculty, staff and especially the students so listen. We hid explosives inside your campus. Look for it if you can find it but I assure you that they would have exploded before you can find them.)
“(D)adanak ang dugo sa katipunan maraming mamatay at mga pangarap ang mga bata at magulang ang masisira pakiabangan ang mga estudyanteng hinuhuthutan niyo.”
(Blood will spill in Katipunan, a lot of people will die and the dreams of parents and students will be destroyed. Watch out for those students whom you steal money from.)
A radio report quoted Rebecca Alfonso, of Miriam College’s external affairs office as saying that they immediately reported the incident to the Anonas Police station after getting the text message.
On Monday, classes were interrupted at San Beda College in Mendiola, Manila due to a bomb threat, which was later declared a hoax by the police.
