Suspected ‘Acetylene Gang’ robbers break into Pasig pawnshop through manhole
MANILA, Philippines–Three suspected “Acetylene Gang” members victimized anew a pawnshop in Pasig City and fled with around P5 million in jewelry and gadgets on Thursday morning.
A Pasig City police case investigator said the burglars dug a hole leading to Dos Pawnshop and Photo Printing Shop on Market Avenue in Barangay (village) San Miguel through a manhole.
Inspector Georel Calipusan said in a phone interview with INQUIRER.net that the three unidentified robbers probably used acetylene, a colorless gas, which can cut through metal, to break into the pawnshop.
Calipusan said the robbers might havestarted digging around 12:40 a.m. early Thursday.
The police official said the owner of the pawnshop, who was just living on the second floor of the pawnshop building, heard an alarm at 12 a.m.
“They didn’t report it to the police because they thought it was a car alarm outside,” Calipusan said in Filipino.
