Pieces of jewelry seized from suspect in Picache mom’s slay

MANILA, Philippines— A black bag containing his clothes and pieces of jewelry believed to be owned by slay victim Zenaida Sison were seized from 29-year-old primary suspect Michael Dy Flores when he was arrested early Wednesday morning in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, police said.

Flores was arrested around 12:05 midnight Wednesday after he trespassed into a house at Garden Villas 3 Subdivison in Barangay (village) Malusak to hide, which prompted the house owner to immediately call the attention of the police.

Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (Cidu) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said this in a memorandum sent to QCPD district director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano obtained by INQUIRER.net.

Soon as the Sta. Rosa police were tipped off, joint operatives of the QCPD Cidu and the local police went to the subdivision and handcuffed Flores, who has been hiding since the September 19 killing.

The QCPD on Friday placed a P50,000 bounty on Flores’ head.

On Monday, Picache posted a photo of Flores with contact details of the police below. She sought the help of friends to share the photo.

Flores will be facing charges of violations of qualified trespass to dwelling and robbery with homicide.

Follow-up operation will be conducted for the possible recovery of other items Flores stole.

He will be temporarily detained at the QCPD Headquarters in Camp Karingal. Albano is expected to present Flores to the media on Thursday.

The 75-year-old Sison was found dead with multiple stab wounds and head injuries, with a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth, in the bedroom of her two-story house on Lazcano Street, Barangay Paligsahan in Quezon City.

The body was found by Picache and her driver. Her family later reported the loss of a cell phone and pieces of jewelry from the house.

Flores was one of the stay-out helpers in Sison’s house, meaning he went to work only during daytime.

Police later found out Flores had been the subject of complaints for theft from his past employers in Las Piñas City and in Cavite and Laguna provinces but no formal charges were filed since he allegedly took only small items.
