Caramoan struck by landslide, floods
NAGA CITY, Philippines — Floods swept through 15 villages in the municipality of Caramoan in Camarines Sur and a landslide cut off the town from this city following incessant rain since early Wednesday morning.
“Vehicles from Naga City can no longer reach Caramoan as a landslide has blocked the road leading to the town proper, eight kilometers away,” said Lucena Bermeo, chief of the Camarines Sur Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
She said more than 1,000 people in the villages of Ili Centro, Tawog, Solnopan, Binanuahan, Tawog and Lubas were affected by knee-deep floods.
Senior Inspector Louie dela Peña, Caramoan police chief, said the neighboring villages of Caputatan, Salvacion, Hanopol, San Roque, Pili-lubas, Ilwaod, Perugo, Oroc-osoc and Bikal were also flooded.
He said the deepest flood was noted in Binanuahan village, where the water was four feet deep.
