MANILA, Philippines–Typhoon “Neneng” (international name: Phanfone) entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) midday Friday, the state weather bureau said.

“Neneng” entered the PAR at 11a.m., said Denison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

It was last observed 1,365 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph.

It is forecast to move northwest at 20 kph.

The typhoon is expected to be at 1,180 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or outside the (PAR) Saturday morning.

It is still too far to affect any part of the country. However, it is expected to enhance the northeasterly winds which will result to rough to very rough sea conditions over the northern and eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon this weekend, Pagasa said.

Heavy to intense rains are forecast within the 700 kilometer-diameter of the typhoon.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards.

It is expected to exit the PAR by Saturday morning.
