MANILA, Philippines—October would be the transition period in Philippine weather as the lingering southwest monsoon, known locally as “Habagat,” would dissipate for the oncoming trade winds, or “Amihan,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Pagasa Forecaster Jun Galang said the transition would bring cooler winds and less rains over the country as long as no weather disturbance enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Despite the transition period, Galang said the oncoming Tropical Storm, which would be named “Neneng” once it enters the PAR, would enhance the still lingering southwest monsoon.

“What it would enhance though is the southwest monsoon, but it’s still outside of PAR so it is still hard to identify its true effects,” Galang said.

He added that once it enters the PAR on Friday or Saturday, the Tropical Storm would bring light to moderate rains with the occasional heavy rains.
