Mayor Binay to question Senate body’s rejection of jurisdictional challenge
MANILA, Philippines—Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay’s camp will question on Wednesday before the Senate blue ribbon committee its sub-committee’s junking of his petition against the investigation into the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall 2 parking building.
“Mayor Junjun Binay through lawyer Claro Certeza will file today, 3 p.m., at the office of Senator (Teofisto) Guingona a motion, questioning the decision of the Senate sub-committee to reject the jurisdictional challenge (raised by the mayor),”Binay’s spokesman, Joey Salgado said in a text message.
Guingona is chairman of the blue ribbon committee, which created a subcommittee investigating the allegedly overpriced parking building.
Binay’s move came ahead of the hearing’s resumption on Thursday.
Instead of attending the sub-committee’s hearing last week, the mayor sent a lawyer and filed a jurisdictional challenge, which was rejected later by the body headed by Sen. Aquliono “Koko” Pimentel III.
