Mancio wins RP belt in San Remigio card

SAN Remigio, Cebu — Jerson Mancio beat Jason Canoy by unanimous decision last Sunday to win the vacant Philippine light flyweight title at the San Remigio Sports Complex.

Mancio, who hails from Agusan del Sur, fought with blood flowing from cuts on his left cheek and eyelid due to accidental headbutts in rounds four and five.

Canoy, who fights out of Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu, stunned Mancio with his well timed one-two combos but the latter absorbed the blows very well with his solid defense. The scores, 115-111, 116-110 and 116-110 all for Mancio.

This was the first career loss for Canoy (9W-1L-1D, 6 KOs) while Mancio improved to 13W-1L-3D, 5 KOs.

In the undercards, Welbeth Loberanis of Mandaue City won by 6th round TKO over Don King Tampus of Davao; crowd favorite Jun Intor downed Cris Leon of Bukidnon in the first round but settled for a technical draw due to clash of heads; Joseph Von Minoza of Talamban, Cebu City used a crippling body shot to knock out Tata Ramuga of Cagayan de Oro in the first round; Zaldy Aroa of Bantayan Island beat Erwin Pulvera of Mandaue City who turned his back as a sign of surrender in the third.

Sherwin Caday of Mandaue City beat Reymund Tabogon of Cagayan de Oro by split decision after four rounds while Ryan Maano of the Sanai Gym of Mandaue City won via unanimous decision over Crispin Parba of Dumaguete City in their four-round tussle.

In the opening bout of the evening, Bebong Manalo of the Tony Dacer Stable of Davao won by unanimous decision over Ronel Abing of Tagbilaran City.

The fight card was held courtesy of ALA Promotions and the local government of San Remigio led by Mayor Jay Olivar. It was witnessed by former WBO minimumweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes.
