Magnitude 5 quake jolts Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines—A magnitude 5 earthquake struck off Catanduanes at 12:16 a.m. Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

The moderate quake centered ‎six kilometers south of Gigmoto and had a depth of 53.98 kilometers.

Only in May this year, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit the northern shores of Catanduanes. The tremor’s epicenter was at 93 kilometers northwest of Pandan town and was tectonic in origin.
