MANILA, Philippines—The Manila Police District chief has ordered the arrest of seven anti-carnapping unit policemen after allegedly extorting P100,000 from a Pakistani car dealer.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Asuncion, MPD chief, told INQUIRER.net over the phone that they are set to file robbery and extortion charges against his seven personnel from the MPD Anti-Carnapping and Hijacking Unit (Ancar) at the Manila regional trial court on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier reports said that last Friday, Kamran Khan Dawood lodged a complaint to the police against six MPD ANCAR policemen and their chief, Senior Inspector Rommel Geneblazo for asking P300,000 in exchange for his release.
The six other policemen are Senior Police Office 1 Jay Perturbos, SPO1 Jonathan Moreno, SPO1 Michael Dingding, SPO1 Gerardo Rivera, PO2 Renato Lachinang, and PO2 Marvin dela Cruz.
Dawood with his colleagues were accosted by the Ancar policemen on Friday, claiming that their vehicles were “hot cars” or stolen cars.
They were then brought to the MPD headquarters in Ermita, Manila. It was there when the Ancar policemen demanded P300,000 from the victims to settle the case.
But Dawood refused to pay the amount, saying he can provide the police the papers of the vehicles. The police then lowered the amount to P100,000, which the victims paid for their release.
Asuncion said he immediately relieved all 14 uniformed personnel in Ancar after Dawood’s complaint on Monday.
But days after they were relieved, the seven policemen facing extortion complaints failed to report to the office and went on absence without leave.
He appointed Chief Inspector Francisco Vargas to replace Geneblazo.
