MANILA, Philippines – A responding village official was shot dead by two robbers who broke into a Chinese temple in Sto. Domingo, Quezon City on Tuesday. One of the suspects was eventually killed by police.
Superintendent Dionisio Bartolome, La Loma Police Station commander, said the robbers killed Barangay Peace and Security Officers (BPSOs) Salvador Nagtalon and wounded two others as they fled on foot along Don Manuel Aggregado Street.
Nagtalon and his fellow BPSOs, Ambrosio Dalangin and Percy Parucho, rushed to the Southern Fragrant Chinese Temple where they saw the suspects sprinting away from the shrine with the loot.
But the suspects drew their guns and shot the BPSOs, killing Nagtalon and injuring Dalangin and Parucho.
La Loma police officers were dispatched to the shrine and shot dead one of the robbers, a certain Bryan, and arrested his accomplice Freddie Rey.
Police recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver, a. 45 caliber pistol, pliers, several bags with cash and a pair of earrings.
Rey was brought to the Quezon City police’s custody pending the filing of charges against him.
