MANILA, Philippines — There is no basis to implement a fare hike for public utility vehicles (PUVs) despite the ongoing PUV modernization program, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said on Friday.
The current minimum fare for traditional jeepneys is P13 and P15 for modern jeepneys.
In a statement, Guadiz stressed that the current fare for PUVs will remain.
He, however, noted that fare increases “should undergo thorough study and multiple consultations with concerned agencies.”
Petitions for fare hike must also go through assessment and study to determine their feasibility with the LTFRB Board.
“Several factors such as inflation and cost of fuel must be considered before the agency approves a new fare increase,” Guadiz added.
