15-year-old boy holds younger sister hostage in Bulacan

MANILA, Philippines—A 15-year-old boy suspected to be under the influence of drugs held his ‎10-year-old sister hostage inside their house in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan on Tuesday.

The male high school student, whose name was withheld as he is a minor, locked up his younger sister in their house with a bolo after calling authorities, claiming robbers have attacked them early Tuesday in Barangay (village) Minuyan.

But Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Divina, Bulacan Provincial Police Office chief, told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview that they found no robbers and deemed that the suspect might be hallucinating.

‎”At first, we wondered, if there really were robbers inside, why is he the one negotiating with us?” he said.

“Maybe it was a part of his hallucination that there were robbers attacking them. We were thinking he could be on drugs and then he snapped.”

Divina said he had to order his personnel to force entry into their home through their roof to rescue the 10-year-old girl.

He said their father, who works as driver at night, had to leave for work during the hostage taking.

But the police official said they are still waiting for the suspect’s medical findings if it would prove positive that he had shabu, or methamphetamine hydrochloride.

Both the hostage taker and the victim were brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
