MANILA, Philippines – Nights will grow longer after the autumnal equinox on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The autumnal equinox occurs when the Sun approaches the celestial equator, it added.
“Autumnal equinox will occur on September 23 when day and night will have equal length on Earth,” Pagasa said in its astronomical diary for September.
This signals colder days ahead, as cooler winds from northeast of the Philippines would pass across the country, said Dario dela Cruz of Pagasa.
Meanwhile, the longest night or the winter solstice, will be on December 22, he added.
The longer nights would be experienced until March 21 or 22, Dela Cruz said.
On its Friday forecast, the state-run weather bureau said the sun rose at 5:45 a.m. and will set at 5:52 p.m.
